Cta Selector

A CTA is a promise about what happens next. Pick it by how much commitment the click asks for relative to how warm the audience is — a cold audience clicks "Learn More"; asking them to "Sign Up" on first contact is a price they haven't agreed to yet.

name: cta-selector
description: Choose the call-to-action for a Meta ad — the button, the CTA line in the copy, and the CTA word on the creative — matched to funnel stage and offer. Use when asked which CTA button to use, what the button should say, whether to use Learn More or Sign Up or Shop Now, write the call to action, fix an ad people engage with but never click, or someone says 'the ad gets likes but no clicks'. For the copy above the button, see headline-and-primary-text. For the offer the CTA points at, see offer-builder.

# CTA selector

A CTA is a promise about what happens next. Pick it by **how much commitment the
click asks for** relative to how warm the audience is — a cold audience clicks
"Learn More"; asking them to "Sign Up" on first contact is a price they haven't
agreed to yet.

Three CTAs live on one ad, and they must agree: the button, the CTA line in the
primary text, and the CTA word on the creative. Adding that CTA word to the
creative converts about **15% better** — use it.

## Before you start

| Input | Why |
| --- | --- |
| Funnel stage — cold, warm, or hot audience | Sets the commitment level the click may ask |
| The offer and where the click lands | The CTA promises the page; the page must keep it |
| Campaign objective | Awareness clicks and conversion clicks are different asks |

## Step 1 — Match commitment to warmth

| Audience | Right ask | Typical buttons |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Cold — never met you | Low commitment: look, read, watch | Learn More, Watch More |
| Warm — engaged or visited | Medium: try, get, download | Download, Get Offer, Subscribe |
| Hot — carted, pricing-viewed, replied | High: buy, book, sign up | Shop Now, Sign Up, Book Now, Contact Us |

Button names above are the common Meta set; verify the current list in Ads Manager —
the platform changes it, and this table is about the *commitment ladder*, not the
menu du jour.

## Step 2 — Align the three CTAs

- **Button**: from the ladder above.
- **CTA line in primary text**: one action, stated plainly, with time-to-value
  where real — *"Choose your meal plan in seconds. Start eating healthy by next
  week."*
- **CTA word on creative**: short ("Learn More"), matching the button — not a
  second, different ask.

One ad, one ask. An ad whose creative says "Shop Now" over a "Learn More" button
makes two promises and keeps neither.

## Step 3 — Check the landing promise

The CTA is kept or broken on the next page: "Get the free guide" must land on the
guide, not a demo form. Mismatch here is the classic clicks-then-bounce pattern —
see **landing-page-copy** for the page side.

## Output

```
# CTA: <ad> × <audience warmth>
Button:        <from the ladder — with one-line why>
Copy CTA line: "<one action + time-to-value>"
Creative CTA:  "<short word matching the button>" (+~15% — include unless layout fights it)
Lands on:      <URL/page> — promise kept by: <what the page shows first>
```

## When it breaks

| What you see | What it means | The fix |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Likes and comments, no clicks | No CTA, or ask too high for cold traffic | Add the low-commitment ask; save Sign Up for warm |
| Clicks, instant bounces | The page breaks the button's promise | Align CTA phrasing with the landing page's first screen |
| Two different asks on one ad | Creative and button disagree | One ask, all three places |
| "Submit" or vague button copy | Commitment with no promise | Say what they get, not what they do |
| High CPC on a conversion CTA to cold traffic | Paying conversion prices for stranger clicks | Step the ladder: cold gets Learn More, retarget the engaged |
| CTA converts on desktop, dies on mobile | The landing page, not the CTA | Check the page at 360px — see design-review |

Never fix a weak CTA by making it louder. "BUY NOW!!" asks the same commitment with
more pressure; the fix is asking less, or warming the audience first.

## Rules

- **One ad, one ask**, because two different CTAs make two promises and keep
  neither.
- **Commitment matches warmth**, because asking a stranger to sign up prices the
  click above what they have agreed to pay.
- **The CTA word goes on the creative** (+~15%), unless the layout genuinely fights
  it.
- **The promise is kept on the next page**, because a broken CTA promise is paid
  for twice — the click and the bounce.
- **Verify the live button list in Ads Manager**, because the menu changes and this
  skill's ladder outlives any snapshot of it.
